Benjamin Mellish Arctic Photographer & Filmmaker
I’m a photographer and filmmaker from Newcastle upon Tyne, England, now living above the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland. After over a decade working as an actor and behind the camera in the British and American film industries, I traded studios and city lights for snow covered forests, quiet lakes, and the northern lights.
My first experience of the Arctic was being invited on an expedition to the highlands of Iceland, that one experience vastly changed my path and direction in life. Its vastness, stillness, and fading wilderness reminded me of how small we are, and how much beauty remains untouched and needs to be protected.
I want my images to have a sense of calm and serenity. The kind of images that make people stop and feel something. to evoke change. Whether I’m documenting the midnight sun from above with a drone, or shooting in -30°C under the northern lights, I’m always chasing that feeling of wonder and sharing it through the lens.
This is the last true wilderness, and I’m here to tell its story.
